An 8 by 8 board, capturing is compulsory, a man can also capture backward, and a king moves any number of squares. If another capture is possible after a jump, the same piece keeps going.
Old Russian column checkers. A captured piece doesn't leave the board: it is taken prisoner under the piece that captured it. Towers are captured from the top, one piece at a time, so a prisoner can end up on top again. A tower belongs to whoever has the piece on top.
The goal turned upside down: the first player to give away all their pieces, or to be left with no move, wins.
Dark moves first, men capture only forward, and a king moves one square.
You have to capture as many pieces as possible in a move. Brazilian is played on an 8 by 8 board, international on 100 squares, Canadian on 144.
Two games on the same board with no captures. The sheep move only forward and try to trap the wolf, while the wolf looks for a way to the bottom edge. In Corners, the goal is to be first to fill the opposite corner, jumping over pieces in chains.
The computer at three levels: the beginner makes mistakes, the amateur sees threats, the master plays for real. Two players on one screen. Online with a live person: search for an opponent who plays the same rules, or open a room for a friend. The room window shows a large code, a link and a QR code, so your friend joins the board in a couple of taps.
Eighty puzzles: find the winning move, and sometimes two or three in a row. The ten-lesson school teaches everything from scratch. After a game you get a review: the computer marks the best move, inaccuracies and blunders.
Twelve neighbors from the courtyard, each with a character and a face that cheers up or sulks. Knockout cups, one daily game for everyone and a daily streak, a rating against the computer and 42 medals. Your progress unlocks eight themes and four piece sets.
Tap your piece, then a highlighted square, or drag the piece. Pieces that can capture are outlined. On a computer you can play with the keyboard: arrow keys and Enter. Russian and English, and the sound can be turned off.
